In May 2023, Niek started as education and research engineer in the group of Membrane Materials and Processes (MMP) and Electrochemical Materials and Systems (EMS) at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e).
Niek received his Chemical Technology ing. degree from the HTS in Heerlen in 1984.
His career at Philips and Lumileds evolved around the development of electrophoretic deposition methods and processes for displays and LEDs. In 2000 this led to a novel conformal luminescent ceramic powder layer deposition process using patterned electrophoretic deposition on nonconductive substrates, allowing the launch of color uniform LED lighting sources. In later years, driven by the continues LED lumen output increase, new tests and material degradation characterization method for LED materials were developed.
In his new role Niek will work on characterization and optimization of fuel cell electrodes.
