New publication on recyclable polymers in Angewandte Chemie
The establishment of a sustainable and circular plastic economy hinges on the advancement of closed-loop polymer recycling technology
In our recent study, we have successfully developed closed-loop recyclable polymeric materials by upcycling polycarbonate plastic waste using a bio-based compound. The resulting materials possess exceptional re-processability and maintain their performance due to the dynamic nature of specific chemical bonds. Moreover, these novel polymers showcase outstanding chemical recyclability, enabling the recovery of monomers with high yields and purity, even when mixed with various commodity plastics. Notably, this process is energy-efficient, representing a significant advancement in sustainable materials research.
These research results were published in Angewandte Chemie: “Closed-loop recycling of poly(imine-carbonate) derived from plastic waste and bio-based resources”, Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2022, 61, e202211806.
