Welcome to Eindhoven, the city of creative innovation, and a warm welcome to you as an international employee at TU/e! We are delighted to have you join our vibrant community of learners, innovators, and problem solvers in this dynamic city. The Eindhoven University of Technology is an integral part of the Brainport region, where experimentation and unconventional thinking are deeply ingrained, leading to significant successes in recent decades. We look forward to helping you grow, learn, and make lifelong connections, as you embark on this exciting new step in your life.
After your arrival in the Netherlands, our Staff Immigration Team (SIT) can assist you with the practical matters listed here.
-
Holland Expat Center
SIT will arrange an appointment for you at the Holland Expat Center, a non-profit government agency. Once you have found (temporary) housing, you can register here as a resident of the Netherlands. You will then receive your social security number (BSN). Employees with a non-EU nationality can also pick up their residence permit at the Expat Center.

Bank Account
To receive your salary, you need a SEPA bank account. If needed, you can open a Dutch bank account as soon as you are registered at a municipality. SIT will inform you about your best options.

Insurance
In the Netherlands a health insurance policy is mandatory, and a personal liability policy is highly recommended. It is also recommended to enter the country with travel insurance to provide coverage until insurance coverage in the Netherlands is in place.
SIT will inform you about arranging your health insurance. The insurance must start on your first day of work or the day you register with the municipality, whichever comes first. It is therefore important to arrange this as soon as possible. TU/e has arrangements with Zilveren Kruis for group health insurance, with a discount and other benefits for you and your family members. You will receive information about your options via email.

Healthcare
Once you have been registered at a municipality and you have health care insurance, it is important to register with a family doctor or general practitioner (huisarts). Your GP is the first point of contact for non-urgent care for both children and adults. If you want to or have to consult a medical specialist, you will first need a letter of referral from your GP.
Depending on your nationality, SIT will arrange a TB test at the GGD upon your arrival. For dental care, you need to be registered at a denist in order to make use of their services. We would advise you not to wait until you encounter dental emergencies.
