Applicability of the Pendant Drop Method for Complex Interfaces

Complex fluid-fluid interfaces can be found everywhere; not only do they give stability to foams and emulsions in consumer goods, foods, coatings and other chemical products, they are found in living organisms as well. An understanding of the interfacial phenomena is essential for these applications. A variety of techniques are used to measure the interfacial properties of systems with fluid-fluid interfaces.  One of these methods is the pendant drop. For relatively simple interfaces, this technique is well suited. However, when surface active agents are adsorbed to the interface, the behavior of this interface may become more viscoelastic. The applicability of the pendant drop method for these complex interfaces is examined in this project.
