RESEARCH PROFILE

Fabian Sobotta is a postdoctoral researcher in the Self-Organizing Soft Matter (SSM) Group at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). His research focuses on the formation of polyeletrolytes and their self-assembly into complex hierarchical nanostructures. He builts in his expertise on organic chemistry, polymer synthesis and colloidal science to study how to control intra- and intermolecular forces with the goal to develop innovative design rules for novel functional soft materials.

Understanding the underlying principles in the interplay of polymerization and self-assembly processes is the key to design the next-generation of soft matter nanomaterials

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

Fabian Sobotta studied Chemistry at the Friedrich-Schiller University of Jena, where he obtained his master`s degree in 2017. He continued his doctoral studies at the same institution under supervision of dr. Johannes Brendel working on general relationships between the structure and shape of block copolymer nanoparticles and their biomedical properties. In 2022, he received his doctoral degree with summa cum laude. In 2022, he joined the group of prof. Ilja Voets at TU/e as a postoctoral reseracher to work on the self-assembly and morphological evolution of charged block copolymers using polymerization-induced electrostatic self-assembly (PIESA).

In 2023, he was awarded a Walter-Benjamin fellowship from the German Research Foundation (DFG) to investigate the assembly of complex coacervate micelles.
