Gabriele Liga
Department / Institute
RESEARCH PROFILE
Gabriele's research interests embrace the areas of digital communications, information theory, and mathematical modeling of communication systems. Gabriele currently holds a Marie Curie Eurotech Fellowship whose main objective is using signal shaping techniques to achieve the fundamental transmission limits of the nonlinear optical fibre channel, He is also interested in multi-user optical communication theory, digital signal processing and nonlinearity compensation for fibre-optic systems. He currently serves as a reviewer for several scientific journals in the area of communications and photonics, such as IEEE Journal of Lightwave Technology, IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, IEEE Transactions on Communications, OSA Optics Express and IEEE Photonics Technology Letters.
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND
Gabriele Liga received his Telecommunications Engineering B.Sc. degree (Laurea triennale) from Universita’ degli Studi di Palermo in 2005, and a Telecommunications Engineering M.Sc. degree (Laurea specialistica) from Politecnico di Milano in 2011. In 2017 he obtained a Ph.D. degree in optical communications in the Optical Networks Group, Electronics and Electrical Engineering Department, University College London, United Kingdom. From 2017 to 2018 he worked as a postdoctoral research associate with the Optical Networks Group, focussing on digital signal processing and nonlinearity compensation techniques for optical fibre transmission. Since December 2018 he has been a senior research fellow under a Marie Curie Eurotech Fellowship with the Signal Processing Systems (SPS) Group, Department of Electrical Engineering, Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), working on channel coding, channel modelling and signal shaping for optical fibre communications.
