RESEARCH PROFILE
The objective of the project, conducted as part of the Advanced Research Center Chemical Building Blocks Consortium (ARC CBBC), is to develop liquid crystalline polymer nanofiltration membranes for the separation of components in non-aqueous environments. Liquid crystalline materials are investigated due to their self-assembling properties leading to well-defined isoporosity with the potential of separations at a molecular level. The focus of the project is on separations of polar/apolar and carboxylic acid/polyolefin mixtures. The final goal is to integrate the developed membrane separation processes with novel chemical routes for upcycling of polyolefins, therefore contributing to the themes of ’closing cycles’ and ’value from waste’.
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND
Jadwiga Poniatowska obtained her Chemistry Masters (MChem) degree at the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom in July 2022. Her Masters thesis, conducted at Syngenta, Jealott’s Hill International Research Centre, was aimed at developing biodegradable polymeric microcapsules for controlled release of agrochemicals. After finishing MChem, she started her position as a PhD candidate working at the interface of Membrane Materials and Processes (MM/P) group and Stimuli-Responsive Functional Materials and Devices (SFD) group, both part of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry at the Eindhoven University of Technology. Her expertise lies in synthesis, analytical characterisation and performance testing of polymeric materials.
