RESEARCH PROFILE

Patrik Hummel is an Assistant Professor in the Philosophy & Ethics Group at Eindhoven University of Technology. His research focuses on bioethics and philosophy of technology, in particular how practices of datafication and automation interact with concepts such as health, well-being, justice, and identity.

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

Before joining the Philosophy & Ethics Group, Patrik Hummel was a postdoctoral researcher at the Chair of Systematic Theology II (Ethics), Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg (2018-2021), where he conducted research in the federally funded projects „DABIGO: Data Sovereignty in Clinical Big Data Applications. Ethical, Legal, and Governance Challenges“ and „vALID: Artificial-Intelligence-Driven Decision-Making in the Clinic. Ethical, Legal and Societal Challenges“. He holds a PhD in Philosophy from the St Andrews and Stirling Graduate Programme for Philosophy (2018). During his doctoral studies, he was a member of the Arché Research Centre for Logic, Language, Metaphysics and Epistemology at the University of St Andrews. He also worked with the Global Health Ethics Unit of the World Health Organization in Geneva as a Carlo Schmid Fellow (DAAD) and later as a Consultant.
