Degree structure

The study load of the master program AI&ES is 120 EC. The curriculum is composed of:

  • core courses (worth 30 EC)
  • track-related courses (worth 90 EC), including:
    • interdisciplinary team project (worth 10EC)
    • specialization courses (worth 20 EC)
    • free elective courses (worth 15 EC)
    • graduation project (worth 45 EC)

Core Courses

The core courses are designed to cover six relevant core topics for AI&ES engineers: data science, human interaction and ethics, programming, mathematics, learning in AI, and engineering systems.

Tracks

Students of the master program AI&ES choose a specialization track in the first quarter of the program. The following tracks are offered:

  • Track 1. High-tech systems and robotics
  • Track 2. Mobility
  • Track 3. Healthcare
  • Track 4. Smart cities
  • Track 5. Science and Discovery
  • Track 6. Manufacturing systems

Interdisciplinary team project

The interdisciplinary team project is a challenge-based and interdisciplinary project. Students work in small teams on realistic and open-ended problems connected to industrial applications. The final product of the team project is either a design, demonstrator, prototype, or a simulated scenario.

Specialization courses

The specialization courses bridge Artificial Intelligence and Engineering Systems. The specialization courses aim to cover four general areas of interest, namely domain-specific knowledge, AI in engineered systems, data cultivation, and learning and intelligence.

Free elective courses

Choose elective courses from the wide range of courses that are on offer within TU/e. Elective courses may also be selected from other universities.

Graduation project

The AI&ES graduation project is an individual research project on a topic related to artificial intelligence in the context of engineering systems.
