After a long doubt between pursuing a PhD or a EngD program, I thought that the opportunity to be more practical within in a two-year traineeship would appeal to me more than working four years on an individual research project. After being awarded with a EngD degree in Mechatronic Systems Design, I can confirm that this was a perfect choice. I really liked the various topics in the courses, which range from workshops in professional development and project management to more technical training in systems engineering and architecting. A very strong point of the program is that the tools and frameworks learned in the courses can immediately be applied in industry via multidisciplinary projects, in my case including projects about robotics, industrial automation, hydraulics and embedded software. I am sure that I benefit from this training to a multidisciplinary systems engineer throughout my entire career
