Microcredentials

What are microcredentials?

If you want to continue learning and developing as a professional, then you are looking for flexible and high-quality education. From now, you can join short courses (3-30 EC, 1 EC = 28 hours) at Eindhoven University of Technology, with similar quality assurance as is the case with bachelor's and master's degrees. The certificate you obtain with these courses is called a "microcredential". This is a recognized digital certificate with which you can show everyone what knowledge and skills you have achieved and at which level. And if you continue your learning path after this, a microcredential can in some cases even grant you an exemption in a full bachelor or master program.

Who are microcredentials for?

Microcredentials are offered by educational institutions to professionals who wish to develop themselves further, which can be done at several levels. One of the quality requirements of a microcredential is that the level of the course is clearly indicated, so you can easily choose a course that suits your prior knowledge, level and motivation. For example, microdentials could be interesting for professionals who:

  • Just finished a degree, but wish to broaden their knowledge without the time and money investment of a full degree
  • Finished a degree a couple of years ago and wish to broaden or deepen their knowledge of a specific subject
  • Wish to stay up-to-date on the latest developments in technology

How do microcredentials work?

After successfully completing the course, you will receive the microcredential. This is a digital certificate, that is issued via the Edubadge platform.

Part of the national pilot microcredentials

Since October 2021, 32 higher education institutions – 10 universities and 22 universities of applied sciences – have been taking part in the Duth national microcredentials pilot. Microcredentialing – breaking down education into smaller units certified separately – stimulates flexibility and gives recognisable value to the lifelong learning offer of institutions. See what the pilot entails via the video.

Where can I find an overview of all available microcredential courses?

During the duration of the pilot, until the end of 2023, all participating educational institutions will issue microcredentials. An overview of these issued microcredentials can be found on this website by filtering on 'pilot microcredentials' at the bottom left.
