"The beauty of mathematics is trying to capture extremely difficult principles in the simplest possible proof. The solution is usually not obvious, so once you have it, it's truly a victory. In Applied Mathematics, we also learn how to use mathematical thinking in a practical way – for example, designing DNA structures for cancer research using mathematics. It's the best of both worlds.
Later in my career, I hope to maintain that sense of variety and problem-solving. The bachelor's program at TU/e gives me a solid foundation: I’m building a wide range of knowledge through elective courses and working on relevant projects with industry partners, where my thoughts are taken seriously. As a second-year student, I was already able to work with a company like ProRail, which is fantastic: high-level mathematics with connections to real life."
