10. I don't know the embargo end date for my publication. Do I need to fill in this information and why is it sometimes populated automatically?
When you add a new peer-reviewed article to Pure, and upload or link an electronic version, please set the access status to "embargoed". Unless you specifically know the required embargo period there is no need to fill in the embargo start and end dates, since DML staff will retrieve this information for you during the validation process.
In some cases however, Pure can perform an online search to find the required embargo period for your publication (should an embargo period be applicable). In order for Pure to do this, it is required that you have filled out the following fields in the publication data.
1. The publication should be an article, the category must be marked "scientific", and "peer reviewed" should be selected.
2. The publication status must be "published" and at least a year of publication must have been entered. We urge you to enter a month and day as well in order to determine a more precise embargo end date.
3. The proper journal must be linked via the "add journal" button.
4. When the above information has been entered, go into the "electronic version" screen by clicking "add electronic version". Choose a document version from the dropdown.
At this point Pure may be able to derive an embargo based on the publication type, journal and document version, the embargoed status and a time span for the embargo will appear, provided the information has been entered in the order described above. Unfortunately this will not always be the case since our embargo provider does not cover the complete set of journals that TU/e publishes in. We aim to improve this over time.
