Innovation is essential for the competitive position of companies. By developing desirable new products and services, innovation helps to win new customers and strengthens the loyalty of existing ones. Start-up entrepreneurs help address customer needs in entirely new ways. However, many new products and businesses fail or do not deliver the expected results because the competitive environment is dynamic and unstructured, which magnifies wrong managerial choices.

The innovation management discipline contains quantitative and qualitative theories, tools and techniques to make businesses and entrepreneurs more innovative as well as more successful in their innovation activities. Key aspects include:

  • New product development
  • Strategic marketing
  • Sales and after-sales service management
  • Business intelligence
  • Open innovation
  • Entrepreneurship

The Master Innovation Management program conveys scientific theories, tools and techniques to manage and improve innovations both within and across companies. You will learn how to apply the gathered knowledge in industrial applications, and experience what it means to carry out research yourself. You will gain new insights and learn to apply the acquired knowledge in many projects. This requires combining multi-disciplinary theoretical frameworks with quantitative (mathematical / statistical) or qualitative (interview / text-based) methodologies.

Master of Innovation Management

Our theory-driven and multi-disciplinary Master Innovation Management program features a project-focus on the firm's innovation process. As part of an Industrial Engineering school, our unique program looks at the operational processes of innovation. It emphasizes the ability to analyze and (re)design innovation processes for maximum effectiveness and efficiency.

The MSc IM program makes use of highly interactive lectures, assignments and group work, with topics related to state-of-the-art research of the school's professors.

Successful completion of the program means you will graduate with the international Master of Science (MSc) degree and the Dutch diploma of ‘ingenieur (ir.)’.

Why Innovation Management at TU/e?

In this video, Daan and Iris will tell you their top 3 reasons for choosing to study Innovation Management at the TU/e (Eindhoven University of Technology) while also taking you on a tour of the campus.

Tracks Innovation Management

Starting in September 2024, the program offers the students five tracks (plus a special/free track) that consist of courses that belong together. The final master thesis is written about a subject related to the chosen track, specific to the individual course program as well as the interests of the student. These are the tracks:

  1. Technology Entrepreneurship & Strategy
  2. AI and Digital Innovation
  3. Sustainability Transitions
  4. Collaborative Innovation & Marketing
  5. Leadership & Organizing Innovation

While the program is at all times one Innovation Management (IM) MSc program, the tracks are there to guide you from the beginning in order to help you choose the most relevant and appropriate courses for your master’s projects. We will provide more detailed information about these tracks starting in October.

An online open day will take place on December 16, 2023. An on-campus open day will follow in February 2024. Create a MyStart account, and we will keep you informed about our events and notify you as soon as registration opens.
