Short Bio
Ian Goodfellow is a Principal Scientist at Google DeepMind. He first became involved in AI research at the Stanford AI Lab as an undergraduate working with Andrew Ng. He was a relatively early advocate of deep learning and completed a PhD in machine learning at Université de Montréal, and wrote the MIT Press textbook Deep Learning with his PhD co-advisors, Yoshua Bengio and Aaron Courville. His invention of Generative Adversarial Networks in 2014 helped to popularize generative models. As a research scientist at Google and OpenAI, he has contributed to machine learning security and privacy and been an advocate for responsible AI development and diversity and inclusion in the AI industry. He has also served as Apple Special Project Group's Director of Machine Learning.
Title
Generative AI: Past, Present, and Future
Abstract
How did AI researchers first start to study generative models, and how did that research evolve into the generative AI we have today? What are the strengths, weaknesses, and societal implications of today's generative AI? Where might generative AI be headed in the future?
