This Open Access policy applies to the calls of Horizon 2020, ERC published from 1 January 2014 until 31 December 2020.
Application scope
Each beneficiary must ensure Open Access to all peer-reviewed scientific journal articles reporting research funded in part or in whole by EC or ERC within 6 months after the original publication date.
Version of the manuscript
A machine-readable electronic copy of the published version (VoR or publishers version) or a final peer-reviewed manuscript accepted for publication.
User license
No obligation. EC/ERC encourage CC-BY.
Platform
Beneficiaries must deposit a machine-readable electronic copy of the published version or final peer-reviewed manuscript accepted for publication in a repository for scientific publications (e.g., TU/e institutional repository). This must be done as soon as possible and at the latest upon publication.
The publication must be uploaded in an Open Access repository even if the article was published in a full gold Open Access.
Costs
Costs are eligible for reimbursement if they were integrated in the research proposal budget and only during the duration of the project.
Enforcement and monitoring
Open Access to publication must be reported by beneficiaries. Compliance with the Open Access policy will be monitored by the EC.
For projects awarded between 1 January 2016 and 1 January 2021.
Application scope
All publications emerging from projects funded by NWO between 1 January 2016 and 1 January 2021 must be made available in Open Access immediately upon publication.
Version of the manuscript
Preferably the Version of Record, otherwise the peer-reviewed Author Accepted Manuscript or the submitted manuscript.

Platform
Open Access must be ensured via either a publisher’s platform or an Open Access repository (such as TU/e institutional repository). The repository should be registered in the Directory of Open Access Repositories (OpenDOAR).

Application scope
All peer-reviewed scientific articles reporting research funded by ZonMw must be made Open Access within 6 months after the original publication date.
Besides journal articles, ZonMw also encourages making other types of scientific publications accessible in Open Access form, such as monographs, books, conference proceedings and grey literature.
Version of the manuscript
ZonMw accepts either the peer-reviewed Author Accepted Manuscript (AAM) or a Version of Record (VoR, publisher’s version).
User license
No obligation. ZonMw encourages CC-BY.
Platform
It is required that the manuscript is deposited in an Open Access repository, such as TU/e institutional repository.
Additionally, ZonMw encourages to register a copy of the manuscript in Europe Pubmed Central (through self-archiving or via the publisher). Make an account here to submit a manuscript.
Costs
Reimbursement of the Open Access costs is possible both for current and new projects. Open Access costs will be reimbursed only if published in a full gold Open Access journal or platform registered in the Directory of Open Access Journals.
Open Access publication costs are reimbursed up to a maximum amount of €5000 per project.
