The digital university library supports researchers and students in locating and examining reliable data in an overload of information. As part of this service, research analytics help us to understand the positioning of research output within its field, identify important patterns, determine collaboration opportunities with other universities and observe trends for strategic decision-making purposes. This involves linking research, publications, data and expertise; analyzing the impact of research output, both for societal and scientific purposes.
We provide a range of research analytics, including evaluating research impact, exploring potential partnerships and providing contextual interpretation. We do this with the aid of a number of analytics tools, including SciVal. The university uses these metrics in a variety of ways, such as to inform: reputation management; attraction to funders; benchmarking; and recruitment and promotion.
Research analytics can be examined from individual to research group to university level and can be used to:
- evidence your research strengths
- develop your publishing strategy
- explore a field by discovering key researchers, journals and institutions
- visualise collaboration networks
- find new talent by identifying researchers of interest
- monitor and benchmark the publishing profile of your research group or faculty.
We help colleagues throughout the organisation, such as university decision and policy makers, faculty management, researchers, and PhD candidates. We also contribute to national working groups and best practice initiatives outside the university.
