Extended reality (XR) opens a new playfield for humans to interact with the world. It is an umbrella term that includes augmented reality, virtual reality, and mixed reality, which all mediate or substitute reality with digital information. Its real power is in the convergence between AI, IoT and XR, when people will be able to interact with intelligent agents and adaptive, interactive environments
Responsible XR addresses ethical concerns, including the collection and usage of user data, the nature of online identity, and the psychological effects of alternate, immersive realities. Using human-centric and value-sensitive perspectives to XR, responsible implementations of XR technologies are explored for applications in (social) media, education, healthcare, urban mobility, and energy efficiency.
