Safety @TU/e: Golden rules

For (in-house & sub) contractors

In the event of a calamity

  • In the event of an accident or incident use the TU/e emergency number: 040-247 22 22.
  • In the event of a calamity follow the instructions of the TU/e emergency response organization (BHV).
  • Report incidents, hazardous situations and (near) accidents to the client, room manager or security (040-247 20 20) and your manager.

Pre-work

  • Consult and discuss, if necessary, beforehand the health & safety plan or the Task Risk Analysis (TRA) that is part of the assignment.
  • Ask the client to ensure that installations/workplace are safe before commencement of the work. Such as: electrical installations disconnected from the mains, clean/empty/unpressurized cabling/piping, shielded sources, tidy workplace.
  • Sign in with:
  1. Reception desk of the building.
  2. Client or Room Manager or Work Supervisor.
  • Discuss the assignment with the client or (room) manager.
    • Inform and check whether the installation/workplace has been made safe.
    • Discuss any risks concerning the work and room in which you will be working: chemical, electrical, (under)pressure, (non-) ionizing radiation, biological agents, asbestos in building/demolition work.
  • Only enter research or technical rooms after permission is acquired from the (room) manager.
  • Ask the (room) manager for safety instructions.
    • Inform about escape route, emergency exits, first-aid box, fire extinguishers, rules of behavior, personal protection equipment.

During the work

  • Only undertake work related to the assignment.
    If in doubt, consult the order slip (specification) or the client!
  • Work according to the local safety regulations (safety instructions).
    Always follow the directions (client/Health & Safety and Environment coordinator)!
  • Ensure the workplace is clean, tidy and safe.
  • Ensure that emergency doors, escape routes, stairwells, first-aid/fire-extinguishing equipment remain accessible.

Post-work

  • Leave the workplace safe (waste, tools, cap/connect cabling/piping /electrical wiring).
    This applies at the end of the working day and in between!
  • Ensure a clear handover of the work to the client or room manager or work supervisor.
  • Sign out with:
  1. Client or Room Manager or Work Supervisor.
  2. Reception desk of the building.

General

  • Throughout the TU/e campus the Dutch roads and traffic laws apply.
  • Eating, drinking and smoking is only permitted in the areas assigned.
  • Possession or use of alcohol and drugs is prohibited.
  • Photos may not be taken without the explicit permission of the client.

Non-compliance with rules of behavior or safety may result in your being denied access to the TU/e campus!
