Course radiation protection - Basic level
Target audience
The Basic Radiation Protection course is intended for those who are confronted with X-ray equipment, accelerators or radioactive substances in their daily work. The course is particularly intended for persons who supervise working with ionizing radiation and who need to be trained as a radiation protection supervisor (TMS).
Recognition and certification
The TU/e is recognized by the government (ANVS) as an institution for training in the field of radiation protection as referred to in Article 5.11 (1) of the Radiation Protection Decree (Dutch: Besluit basisveiligheidsnormen stralingsbescherming) (see the Nuclear Energy Act). On the level of the Radiation Protection Officer (RPO), the SBD-TU/e will take care of the following variants: radioactive substances level D (TMS-VRS-D), accelerators level D (TMS-VER-D) and measurement and control applications (TMS-M&R).
In the past, these radiation protection courses were offered as a level 5A course, intended for those working exclusively with X-ray machines or sealed sources, or level 5B, which also focuses on working with open radioactive materials.
During the course, use is made of the computer-controlled learning environment StraDos (in Dutch) and the book "Practical Radiation Protection". (authors: van den Eijnde and Roobol)
To obtain the diploma, the following is required:
Attendance at 80% of meetings and active participation in practical exercises. Sufficient result for the computer-controlled exam (StraDos).
Program
The program consists of seven plenary sessions in the morning (4 lecture hours), followed by a three practical sessions for which the appointments will be made individually. Discussion of the theory takes place in the form of lectures, tutorials and with the help of the computer program StraDos.
