PhD defenses
The doctorate is the highest Dutch degree to crown a scientific study.
The defense ceremony at TU/e takes place under the supervision of the first supervisor, appointed by the Doctorate Board. The assessment of the defense ceremony takes place on the basis of a dissertation, in which the research or technological design is described.
The defense ceremony procedure is described in the doctorate regulations 2009 which can also be found on this site. It is essential that the time schedule described in this Regulation should be followed punctually. This time schedule covers the last six to nine months before the date of the ceremony. Further, the Regulation contains information about the requirements that must be fulfilled by the Doctorate Committee and the doctoral candidate. It also describes the protocol of the ceremony in great detail.
The Regulation is subject to change. Please make sure that you have the latest version when you are arranging the defense ceremony.
In addition to the doctorate regulations, the Information brochure for Doctoral Candidates provides you with a handle to understand the doctorate regulations and to arrange your defense ceremony.
